Strategic Road Network in the Cardiff Capital Region (CCR)
The SRN, managed by the Welsh Government through South Wales Trunk Road Agency (SWTRA), connects communities, businesses, and key economic hubs across the CCR. While Local Authorities don’t manage or maintain the SRN, we recognise its crucial role in regional connectivity and economic growth.
A Sustainable, Resilient Network
Our aim is to create an integrated, sustainable, and resilient transport network, linking the SRN effectively with local roads. This will improve the movement of people and goods, supporting business investment and providing access to jobs, services, and opportunities. Coordination with Welsh Government, SWTRA, and utilities ensures efficient maintenance and road capacity enhancements, helping to minimise congestion.
Key Priorities for the SRN
The Regional Transport Plan (RTP) outlines several key areas for investment and collaboration:
- M4 Connectivity & Congestion Relief
Support for measures to ease congestion and reduce car reliance, including enhanced public transport, improved junctions, and active travel routes. - A465 Heads of the Valleys
Improving accessibility and safety along the A465, supporting business growth and regional connectivity. - A470 – North-South Connectivity
Support for park & ride expansions and enhanced public transport to reduce congestion and improve travel efficiency.
Working Together for a Better Network
CCR is committed to working with Welsh Government, Local Authorities, and transport agencies to create a seamless and sustainable transport system, reducing congestion and enhancing accessibility for economic growth.
