Our vision
Transport Vision and Objectives
Our vision is to establish an efficient, affordable, low-carbon transport network that enhances quality of life, fosters shared prosperity, and supports a carbon-neutral region where walking, cycling, and wheeling are favoured for shorter journeys and decarbonisation of the transport network.
To achieve this vision for transport, CCR has produced a set of objectives for the draft RTP that will help us achieve CCR’s strategic goals for the Region. Our goals are wider than transport, and include:

A Competitive Region
- To improve access for all to employment opportunities and core services, ensuring new and existing developments are accessible by sustainable transport.
- To improve the quality, efficiency and reliability of the Region’s transport and digital network.
- To make sustainable transport and travel planning an integral component of economic wellbeing, transport planning and spatial planning, whilst stimulating creativity and innovation.

A Connected Region
- To create safe, healthy and equal communities across the Region, enabling residents and visitors to have access to sustainable and affordable transport options.
- To provide a transport network that achieves a modal shift towards more sustainable forms of transport for moving freight and goods.
- To improve connectivity, through the provision of transport, between South East Wales and the rest of Wales, the UK and beyond.

A Resilient Region
- To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution and noise emissions from road transport by 60% (CO2) by 2035.
- To make better use of existing transport infrastructure and ensure that climate resilience and actions to reduce the impact of transport on the natural and built environment are embedded in all future interventions.
- To improve the actual and perceived levels of personal safety and security when travelling, and to reduce the number and severity of road traffic casualties.
